On Wednesday, December 11, 2019, at 11:00 AM, the Presidency of the Geography Department at the University of Zakho celebrated the International Day of Mountains by holding a package of activities in the presence of Assistant Professor Dr. Lazin A. Jamil-President of the University of Zakho, deans of colleges and universities, faculty members, university students and a number of media institutions.
The President of the University said that the mountains of Kurdistan have great benefits that are not hidden from anyone, and indicate the geographical diversity of the territory of the region and the food and animal wealth involved, and added that these mountains witnessed that they were disobedient in the face of the enemies of Kurdistan, preserved the land of the Kurds in previous historical periods, citing a series of events from Kurdish history.
On the sidelines of the celebration, a lecture was held by Professor Khader Abdel Karim, in which he talked about the importance of the mountainous regions included in the region and its benefits, as well as the date of the commencement of the celebration of this day, followed by a speech presented by a group of students from the Department of Geography, in which they presented an informative summary of the number of Kurdistan mountains and their names and geographical locations.
The celebration also witnessed the establishment of a special exhibition of paintings, drawings, and mountain figures to introduce the audience to the beautiful nature of Kurdistan, its natural scenery and vivid colors.
